Information regarding accessibility at the Cologne Higher Regional Court for persons with disabilities.

Barrier-free access

Behindertenzeichen

Unfortunately the main entrance of the court building, on Reichenspergerplatz, is difficult to access for wheelchair users and people with disabilities, due to the stairs there.

For easier access it is recommended, that you use entrance gate in Hülchrather Str. For this, drive past the right-hand side of the court building to Merlostr., around the court building, turn left into the Blumenthalstr., turn left again when you get to Hülchrather Str. and drive all the way to the entrance gate. In front of the entrance gate there is an intercom system that can be operated from the car, and which connects to the porter. If you arrive by car, the porter will allocate a suitable parking space for you.

On the left-hand side of the courtyard there is a lift at ground level, which provides barrier-free access to all floors and rooms. Should you require any assistance, our security staff will be happy to help.

Moreover, on the right, next to the entrance gate, there is an entrance with slope, meaning that it is possible to gain barrier-free access for prams, wheelchairs or walker-rollators.

Lift

The two lifts adjoining the main staircase are fitted with braille for blind and partially sighted people. All lifts are equipped with emergency contact buttons.

Disabled parking

There are two designated parking spaces for disabled people, provided by the city, and located on the right of the main entrance to the court building.
In addition to this there is a further disabled parking space in the courtyard (see also “Barrier-free access”).

Disabled toilet facilities

There are three disabled toilets in the court building, all of which are located near staircase III. One toilet is located on the ground floor, which houses the departments of the Cologne local court (the court cashier’s office, probate office and landregistry, as well as the rooms for forced auctions).  The other two toilets are located on the 1st floor, which houses most of the court rooms of the Cologne Higher Regional Court, and on the 4th floor, which houses the examination rooms and the canteen.
